Tennessee football is cruising toward National Signing Day with the hopes of landing a few top uncommitted prospects in the 2020 class.

Jeremy Pruitt led an impressive turnaround in 2019. Tennessee looked to be headed toward disaster after losses to Georgia State and BYU at home, starting the season with a 2-5 record.

How did the Volunteers respond to a disastrous start in Pruitt’s second year? With six straight victories which included a Gator Bowl comeback win over Indiana. An 8-5 finish to the 2019 season isn’t too shabby when you consider how it started.

Now Pruitt has to carry that momentum over into the recruiting landscape with National Signing Day just about a week away. Can he get the Volunteers back on top with another solid class and an ideal finish?

Who are the Volunteers’ top remaining targets?

Tennessee may be in a heated battle here with Florida for Damarcus Beckwith who is actually a two-sport athlete who just started playing football a couple of years ago. Maybe Rick Barnes could get him to play basketball, too, and help both programs — like he would also do for Florida.

Beckwith stands 6-foot-4 and weighs about 215 pounds and should be a receiver at the next level with that size. Plus, Tennessee is losing its top two receivers (Jauan Jennings and Marquez Callaway) from 2019 and will need more weapons around Josh Palmer.

The Alabama-native is ranked the No. 387 recruit in the class as well as the 18th-best athlete, according to the 247Sports composite.

It may be an uphill battle in trying to land Beckwith over Florida, but there could be a draw of joining both the Volunteers’ basketball and football programs.
