The recruitment of Malik Hornsby is heating up as we speak as the once clear-favorite Baylor Bears have found themselves a new challenger in Arkansas.

Both programs are being led by first-year head coaches, so Hornsby doesn’t mind having to develop new relationships and both Sam Pittman and Dave Aranda have done a great job with this kid. He will likely be choosing between these two programs on National Signing Day and both could use him.

The real question is, however, is he willing to sit a year and redshirt or does he want to be thrown into the fire right away? We’ve seen successful freshman quarterbacks plenty of times, but it may take a year to get Arkansas’ offense on track and being thrown into the fire may cause him to develop slower.

If he picks Baylor, he could learn behind Charlie Brewer for a year and if the veteran quarterback isn’t quite himself after a scary injury in the Sugar Bowl, Hornsby could take over in a more polished offense.

Baylor may lead slightly for his services and he’d be a huge get. He’s listed as the No. 98 overall recruit and fifth-best dual-threat in the 2020 class, according to 247Sports.
