Mike Leach is hoping to get Mississippi State football a solid finish to its 2020 class with a decent National Signing Day haul. Who’s left on the board?

It’s been less than a month, but Mike Leach has been hard at work in Starkville, putting the final touches on Mississippi State’s 2020 recruiting class.

Leach has done a solid job keeping the class relatively intact as it ranks 27th in the country but just No. 10 in the SEC. It’ll be tough for him to go from a program that doesn’t have many expectations in the recruiting landscape to one that needs to stay in the top-30 nationally to keep up with the rest of the league.

Who is on top of the recruiting board for Mississippi State heading into signing day?

Mike Leach is looking to add some interior linemen in the 2020 class — and so was Joe Moorhead before his sudden departure. That’s where a guy like Kahlil Benson comes into play.

Benson is from the state of Mississippi, so the Bulldogs already have an advantage here over the competition strictly because of geography. There’s reason to believe Indiana is right up there with the Bulldogs in the race for Benson, but he is taking one final visit to Starkville on Jan. 31 and that could be the decider in his recruitment.

What makes Benson even more intriguing of a prospect for Mississippi State is the fact that he was committed to Ole Miss about a month ago. That would make for quite the rivalry banter.

Benson is ranked the No. 731 overall prospect and 45th-best guard in the 2020 class, per 247Sports. He is also Mississippi’s No. 23 prospect.
