Jacob Breeland is lost for the season

Perhaps the sloppiest game of the season, disregarding the travesty that was the Arizona State loss, the victory over Cal at home did not inspire much confidence. A paltry offensive output and determined Cal defense, lead by All-American inside linebacker Evan Weaver stifled the Ducks’ offense — especially Justin Herbert — for most of the day.

The Ducks did not take the lead for good until a little over a minute remaining in the third quarter. A fourth-quarter touchdown strike from Herbert to Jaylon Redd extended the Ducks’ lead and Herbert’s consecutive games with a touchdown streak to 33. This was also heralded freshman receiver Mycah Pittman’s debut.

After dominating the Colorado Buffalos in a Thursday night game by a final score of 45-3 the Ducks gained Penn State transfer Juwan Johnson for the rest of the season, but lost Jacob Breeland to a leg injury for the remainder of the year — and his Duck career.
