1. Costello is an exponential upgrade

Any time you bring in a talent like K.J. Costello to your program, you are upgrading the quarterback room. Costello was recruited by the likes of USC, Florida, Alabama, Florida State and Notre Dame. The pedigree is there.

When he chose Stanford over those schools, the Cardinal had one of the better programs in the country. He won nine games and his bowl in his only season as the full-time starter.

Costello brings veteran leadership and a winning pedigree to Mississippi State. He’ll ease the transition of Mike Leach’s system and the program’s culture. Not only that, Costello is by far the most polished quarterback Mississippi State has right now. He’s refined as a passer, he’s shown the ability to absorb a playbook quickly and is an NFL prospect.

Leach’s system doesn’t rely on four-star and five-star talent to be successful. However, when you put players that talented in the system, they flourish. There’s little doubt that, on the balance, Costello flourishes in this passer friendly system.
