National Signing Day in February isn’t nearly as enticing these days because of the early signing period taking care of most of the surprise commitments, but Texas A&M still got some exciting news from four-star defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson from Mississippi.

What makes this recruitment even more impressive was the fact that Jackson was being recruited heavily by Alabama and the Crimson Tide looked like the favorites to land him.

Jimbo Fisher may be looking for a young guy to come in and compete on a defensive line that’s losing a star defensive tackle in Justin Madubuike. If he’s looking to insert an incoming freshman into the regular rotation, McKinnley is the guy. He’s got the size at 6-foot-2 and 327 pounds to come in and compete right away.

Jackson is ranked the No. 61 overall player in the nation as well as the ninth-best defensive tackle and he’s the fourth-highest rated signee in Texas A&M’s class, according to 247Sports.

It’ll be tough to win snaps over a guy like Isaiah Raikes who is enrolled early, but Jackson is a special talent.
