We go from Tennessee’s highest-rated signee in the 2020 class to the top-ranked early enrollee in Knoxville. Harrison Bailey may not win the starting quarterback job for the Volunteers in 2020, but he’s going to push Jarrett Guarantano in his final season, Brian Maurer who contributed as a freshman and J.T. Shrout.

The quarterback room got deeper this offseason and the addition of Bailey may end up pushing one of the three quarterbacks in the race out into the transfer portal.

While that may not seem like a good thing, he’s only going to make the quarterback room stronger and it’s not a given that the existing guys on the depth chart are going to win the job. Bailey is talented enough to shock the coaching staff and take over as QB1 for the 2020 campaign.

As previously mentioned, Bailey is already on campus as an early enrollee and has ideal size for the position at 6-5 and 211 pounds. He is ranked the No. 98 overall recruit in the class and was the third-best pro-style quarterback in the cycle, per 247Sports. I’d be shocked if this kid wasn’t given a real shot this season.

Will we see the start of the Bailey era before Guarantano even graduates? It’s possible, but he’s going to need to show a lot this spring. I think he can do just that.
