If you think about Auburn football over the past decade-plus, you think about elite defensive line play and four-star defensive tackle Jay Hardy could help carry that tradition.

Hardy has an incredibly strong 6-foot-4, 280-pound frame so he is definitely built for the interior. The 247Sports Composite has him listed as the No. 100 overall prospect in the 2020 class and 13th-best defensive tackle. On top of that, he’s listed as the No. 3 recruit from the state of Tennessee and was looking like a lock to pick the Volunteers, but shocked everyone by choosing Auburn.

If that’s not exciting enough for Auburn fans, the fact that 247Sports‘ Barton Simmons compares his game to Nick Fairley should do it.

Although he isn’t enrolled early, he will have an impact on the defense from day one, especially with openings on the line with Derrick Brown and Nick Coe gone. He could fill a void and he’ll present quite the battle for snaps when he steps foot on campus.
