Chubba Purdy is facing an uphill battle heading into the 2020 season. The incoming freshman from Arizona, and brother of Iowa State’s Brock Purdy, was highly sought-after out of high school and originally committed to Louisville. Then, right before early signing day, Purdy visited Florida State and then flipped and signed with the Seminoles five days later.

The talented quarterback liked what he saw from Mike Norvell and it took the new head coach less than two weeks to flip the four-star.

And with a new coaching staff in Tallahassee, Purdy may have a real shot to win the starting job, even though he’s not an early enrollee. Learning an entirely new playbook in one summer as an incoming freshman is far from easy, but Purdy is smart and plenty talented. He could be the guy to push James Blackman and Jordan Travis.

Purdy may officially be the most talented quarterback for Florida State heading into the 2020 season and he’ll only have a few months to prove that.

Will he win QB1? Maybe, but he will get a serious look by Norvell and the Seminoles, especially if the quarterbacks don’t wow the staff in spring ball.
