We go from the top-rated non-early enrollee to the No. 1 player in Baylor’s 2020 class who just so happens to be enrolled early. James Sylvester probably expected to be playing for Matt Rhule, but he can’t be too upset that he’ll now be mentored by one of the brightest defensive minds in college football instead.

Sylvester is ranked the No. 311 player in the country in the 2020 class as well as the 16th-best weak-side defensive end, according to 247Sports. He’s one of three four-star recruits in Baylor’s class and should fit right in with the defense.

James Lynch, Bravvion Roy and James Lockhart are all gone, leaving three vacancies along the defensive line and that’s where Sylvester comes into play.

The four-star end has a lanky 6-4, 225-pound frame that could use some added muscle, but if he adds 10-15 pounds by the start of the 2020 season, he could be inserted into the regular rotation right away.

Don’t be surprised if Slyvester is making plays for the defense regularly in 2020, especially with Dave Aranda’s coaching.
