2. Throws a very catchable ball

While Steven Montez doesn’t have the strongest arm out of the quarterbacks in this year’s draft, he has a strong enough arm to make all the throws necessary in the NFL. If he were to clean up his mechanics a bit, I think he would be able to demonstrate a strong arm as well.

One thing Montez does do a really good job of is throwing with the necessary touch on his passes. He shows great feel on what type of ball needs to be thrown according to the route and the coverage the defense shows. This is why when watching film of Montez, he demonstrates the ability to throw a very catchable ball on any route against any coverage. The good feel he shows on his passes is something every receiver can appreciate and something NFL scouts look for when evaluating quarterbacks.

Below is a good clip of Montez showing great touch on his throw as he is on the run. Fast forward to the 3:12-mark of the clip. You will see Montez on boot leg to his left with a high low concept of routes.

The deepest receiver is open and Montez show’s great feel for the type of pass that needs to be thrown as two defensive backs trail the receiver. Montez hits him for a touchdown.
