West Virginia Football: 3 signees who’ll have instant impacts in 2020
The quarterback position was a mess for West Virginia last season and Austin Kendall, Jarret Doege and Trey Lowe III all return. Should this make for an interesting quarterback battle this offseason? Absolutely, but that should also include three-star Tallahassee, Fla., native Garrett Greene.
Kendall was underwhelming with 1,989 yards, 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as the starter for most of the season, Doege showed promise with 818 yards, seven touchdowns and three picks and Lowe III had just two pass attempts.
As for accuracy, Doege completed 65 percent of his passes and Kendall connected on 62 percent of his. The interceptions were the difference between the two.
This even battle could open the door for Greene who is enrolled early this spring and is listed as the No. 21 dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 class, according to 247Sports. He’s also the No. 573 overall prospect and despite his slight 6-foot-0, 185-pound frame, the kid can ball.
I’m not predicting Greene wins the starting job, but he has just as good a chance as the rest of the quarterback room and will only make the starter (whoever it may be) better.
