Herm Edwards has done an excellent job with Arizona State football, signing the No. 24 recruiting class in 2020 with a handful of instant impact players.

What a job Herm Edwards has done in a short period of time at Arizona State. The 65-year-old head coach seemed like a questionable hire by the Sun Devils before the 2018 season, but he has led them to a 15-11 record and a couple of bowl appearances in consecutive years.

On top of that, he’s helping the program recruit better as he landed the No. 28 class in 2019 and signed the No. 24 class, which was fourth-best in the Pac-12, for 2020.

Which 2020 signees will have an instant impact for the Sun Devils?

Arizona State’s defense improved tremendously last season and it made up for some of the offense’s inconsistencies, allowing just under 400 yards per game.

However, there’s still plenty of work to be done, especially against the pass, as Arizona State surrendered nearly 270 yards per game through the air. That’s why DJ Taylor, a three-star cornerback from Tampa, Fla., is such a valuable signee.

Taylor is the Sun Devils’ highest-rated cornerback prospect and even though he may be playing catch-up with Macen Williams, a three-star corner who is enrolled early, this summer, he has all the talent and potential in the world. Taylor stands 5-10 and weighs about 185 pounds and is even rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports.

The composite, however, has him listed as the No. 597 overall player and No. 41 cornerback in the class. He should be able to help replace Kobe Williams at corner.
