While Maryland football didn’t have the most successful 2019 season, there were some position groups who graded out favorably.

Maryland’s 2019 season was quite a rollercoaster ride, if there’s a rollercoaster that starts at the top and then rapidly plummets to the ground.

After outscoring their first two opponents 142-20, including a 63-20 thrashing at home against No. 21-ranked Syracuse, the Terps’ electric offense ran out of juice for just about the rest of the season.

Following their beat-down of Syracuse, the Terps seemed to be on top of the world. They were ranked for the first time since 2013. The nation was talking about the highest-scoring offense in the country. Mike Locksley looked like he was already the savior of Maryland football and transfer quarterback Josh Jackson appeared to be guy that the team has been missing for years. Then everything went horribly wrong, and for once, injuries can’t really even be blamed for Maryland’s woes.

After their 2-0 start, the Terrapins lost in a slog at Temple in a game both teams were trying their best to give away. After that came the absolutely humiliating loss in front of a sold-out Friday night home crowd when Penn State came to town. The team never really bounced back from that loss and only found one more win in the season against Rutgers. Maryland ended the season 3-9 in Locksley’s first year, missing a bowl for the third consecutive time.

All of that being said, there were bright spots on both sides of the ball and the players deserve credit for never giving up in a season that went off the rails quickly.

Here’s the final report card on the Maryland Terrapins.
