NFL Combine 2020: Albert Okwuegbunam’s 40-time earned him some money
The NFL Combine is underway and Missouri’s Albert Okwuegbunam has already improved his draft stock with an incredible 40-yard dash.
There will be many highs and lows in the first workout day of the 2020 NFL Combine. There were some lows in the tight end position group but was a huge high from former Missouri tight end Albert Okwuegbunam.
On Thursday’s workout with the tight ends, Okwuegbunam ran the fastest time of the day in the 40-yard dash with a 4.49-second time. In his second run, he ran a 4.50-second time. The next fastest 40-yard dash time for tight ends measured are Purdue’s Brycen Hopkins and LSU’s Stephen Sullivan at 4.66 seconds.
Measuring at 6-5, 258 pounds and running a 4.49-second in the 40-yard dash is jaw-dropping. His 40-yard dash time is tied for fourth-fastest ran by a tight end since 2003. This is also the fastest time by a tight end since the 2017 NFL Combine when Ole Miss’ Evan Engram ran a 4.42-second time.
NFL.com currently has him ranked sixth overall among tight ends in the 2020 NFL Draft class. Bleacher Report’s NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller has him as the fifth-best tight in the 2020 NFL Draft class. Okwuegbunam’s speed and burst off the ball are two great attributes that were measured in the 40-yard dash.
In three seasons at Missouri, Okwuegbunam accumulated 98 receptions for 1,187 yards and 23 touchdowns. In freshman year in 2017, he caught 29 receptions for 415 yards and 11 touchdowns. NFL Next Gen Stats measured Okwuegbunam with an elite production in college at 94 after Purdue’s Brycen Hopkins (98).
NFL teams are taking notice of the talented tight end from Missouri and he just made himself some money on Thursday with that incredible 40 time.
