1. James Morgan, FIU

Size: 6-4, 213 pounds
Stats (career): 57%, 8,654 yards, 65 TDs, 34 INTs

James Morgan is the most intriguing of the mid-round quarterbacks. He had the measurables and most scouts believe he has an NFL-caliber arm and loves the fact he takes care of the ball.

However, he had a serious decline in production from his junior to his senior year at FIU. He threw almost half as many touchdowns (14) his final year for the Panthers as he did the year prior (26). Despite this, he’s gaining buzz with scouts because of how well he practiced and played in the Senior Bowl and Shrine Game, respectively.

Much like Steven Montez, Morgan has to nail the interview process. He should test well since he had a good showing in Mobile and St. Petersburg. However, when you test well and you have good practices, but the numbers and the tape don’t match, you have to account for that.

Morgan has all the NFL measurables and the arm but did not dominate his level of competition. By most accounts, Conference USA is competing with the Sun Belt for the lowest-rated Group of Five conference in the nation, yet Morgan did not put up big numbers. Somehow, that has to be explained, and Morgan is going to get that question through the process. The way he answers could help or hurt his draft status.
