What’s most impressive about tight end Maliq Carr is Jeff Brohm out-recruiting Jim Harbaugh to get him to Purdue over Michigan.

With starting tight end Brycen Hopkins on his way to the NFL, Carr has an opportunity to start this fall or play a lot of snaps. He fits what Purdue likes to do with the tight end since he played receiver in high school. The Oak Park-native spent a lot of time playing on the perimeter in high school. He’ll be asked to patrol the seam either in the slot or in a three-point stance when playing with his hand on the ground.

Carr, coupled with breakout freshman David Bell and the returning Rondale Moore will keep a lot of defensive coordinators up at night.

Despite having injury concerns at quarterback and offensive line last season, the passing game still managed to average over 300 yards per game and throw 28 touchdowns. Carr’s ability to high point the ball and line up all over the field gives Brohm and his offensive staff a tactical advantage.

Since they can move him all over the field, that means they can move Bell and Moore. Most importantly, the offense is more than just Moore or bust.
