Ole Miss Football: Way-too-early game-by-game predictions for 2020
Matt Rhule might be gone, but Baylor should still be one of the top contenders in the Big 12 under former LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda. The Bears return Charlie Brewer at quarterback and will have a solid defense yet again while Ole Miss is in the first game of a rebuilding season under Lane Kiffin.
Expect Baylor to come out strong against the Rebels in the season opener down in Houston and it’ll take a two-touchdown lead into the half before extending it a bit in the third quarter before Ole Miss trims it in the fourth. The Rebels will show some fight, but Matt Corral’s — yes, he’s my favorite to start — offense just won’t have enough firepower.
Final Score: Ole Miss 20, Baylor 31 (0-1)
Southeast Missouri State was one of the better FCS teams from a season ago, finishing 9-4, but it lost its first-round playoff game. Moreover, it faced just one FBS team in 2019 and lost 50-0 to an average Missouri team. That’s music to Ole Miss’ ears.
This isn’t going to be a cakewalk, by any means, but it’ll be a nice comeback game after losing the opener to a solid Baylor team. Confidence should come back after this one as Corral and the offense get on track. Lane Kiffin gets his first win as Ole Miss coach in this one.
Final Score: SE Missouri State 10, Ole Miss 38 (1-1)
