7. Dino Babers, Syracuse

Who are the Syracuse Orange? We know the history. Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Floyd Little, Marvin Harrison, Donovan McNabb and Dwight Freeney are just some of the names that have played in upstate New York. However, the landscape of college football has changed.

The Orange are no longer independents or in the Big East. The fate of Dino Babers job depends on how the athletic department decides what they think the ceiling and floor of the football program is.

After winning 10 games in 2018, the Orange regressed in 2019 going 5-7. The defense, which was supposed to be a strength last season was bad. The Orange defensive unit gave up over 450 yards per game and over 30 points. The transition between graduating quarterback Eric Dungey and Tommy DeVito did not go as well as the offensive staff thought.

If there is a silver lining coming into this season, there are eight starters returning on offense. If the Orange win six or seven games next season, is that enough to save Babers? That depends on what Syracuse thinks of itself.
