Trevor Lawrence should be the favorite to win the 2020 Heisman Trophy but Ohio State football’s Justin Fields should be right behind him.

If you’re looking for favorites to win the 2020 Heisman Trophy, you won’t have to look much further than Clemson, S.C.

Trevor Lawrence returns for his junior season after leading Clemson to back-to-back title game appearances with one national championship victory under his belt.

In what was considered a “down year” for Lawrence, he passed for 3,665 yards and 36 touchdowns but he threw twice as many interceptions (8) in 2019 than he did in 2018. He still improved his completion percentage and showed more willingness to run.

But one quarterback that deserves every ounce of love that Lawrence will get in 2020 is Justin Fields.

The Ohio State quarterback transferred from Georgia and had a monster season, passing for 3,273 yards and 41 touchdowns with only three interceptions. Even more impressive was the fact that he came into a new system right away with a new coach and dominated, taking complete control of the offense and looking like a three-year starter.

Fields showed toughness with the ball in his hands and made good decisions. His three interceptions and 10 rushing touchdowns on nearly 500 yards were evidence of that.

Ryan Day utilized him perfectly and he ran the offense flawlessly. That should continue with endless weapons in 2020 which include Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaelen Gill, Luke Farrell, Master Teague and a plethora of incoming talent.

Ohio State has the pieces to make his 2020 season unforgettable and besides being the clear favorites to win the Big Ten, the Buckeyes should field a Heisman front-runner.
