Oregon is the clear frontrunner to repeat as Pac-12 football champion this season, but who are the three teams that could dethrone the Ducks.

The Pac-12 is at a serious crossroads right now. No team from the conference has made the College Football Playoff since Washington faced Alabama in 2016.

The conference is losing money and viewership among other things.

On top of all that, I think that they are short on top-tier contending teams and it has been awhile since Pac-12 football has won a major non-conference game and been relevant nationally. This is where defending champion Oregon factors into the equation.

The Ducks are recruiting at a very high level right now and will have a big chance to make a statement when the Ohio State Buckeyes come to Eugene on Sept. 12.

One of the most underrated storylines heading into this season is which Pac-12 teams are poised to challenge the Ducks and capture a New Year’s Six bowl bid and possibly even a College Football Playoff berth? Could it be Utah, despite losing several key contributors from last year’s 11-win team? Could it be Stanford, which has fallen on hard times recently after being one of the most consistent teams in the country?

I’m going to take a look at the three teams that could dethrone Oregon and win the Pac-12 this season.
