1. The USC quarterback battle takes center stage

If USC is going to compete in the South, it needs to settle on a quarterback. Though it’s no guarantee, Kedon Slovis is in the lead after his unexpected performance from last season.

The fact that no one saw this coming from Slovis might give incumbent quarterback JT Daniels a chance to win the job back. Daniels had his ups and downs in his true freshman season, he looked good running the air-raid before he injured his knee.

Slovis’ season almost did not happen. Veteran Matt Fink started against Utah after Slovis played poorly the week before against BYU in Provo. After Fink had a bad game against Washington, Clay Helton and the Trojans’ offensive staff stayed with Slovis the majority of the rest of the season.

The big question about who starts next season is, can you lose your job to injury. According to Daniels’ father, JT is not transferring; he is going to stay and compete for the starting job.
