3. Baylor Bears

Losing Matt Rhule is surely going to hurt, but Dave Aranda is no slouch as the new head coach. Heck, he’s coming off a national title-winning season as LSU’s defensive coordinator and while his unit was overshadowed by Joe Burrow and that explosive Tiger offense, he was consistently considered one of the best assistants in college football.

Aranda takes over a team that played in the Sugar Bowl a season ago and returns Charlie Brewer at quarterback for one final season. He can be one of the best quarterbacks in the Big 12 if he stays healthy and he has talented targets returning even though Denzel Mims is gone.

The defense is losing some key players, too, but with Aranda bringing his defensive mind to Waco, the Bears shouldn’t see much of a drop-off on that side of the ball.

There’s a reason Baylor went to the Big 12 title game last season and it’s because Rhule recruited better throughout his time in Waco and that roster is starting to take the shape of a national contender. The Bears may have lost twice to Oklahoma last year, but this is a new season and anything is possible.
