Ohio State football is off to a scorching-hot start in its 2021 class as Ryan Day is dominating these days. Will he ever slow down?

Urban Meyer was an elite recruiter in Columbus. He had the best class in the Big Ten year after year and that translated to conference titles and even a national championship after the 2014 season. So when he gave way to Ryan Day, there was concern that recruiting would drop off.

That has been far from the case.

In fact, Day landed the No. 5 recruiting class in the nation for 2020 with three five-stars and 14 four-stars, but that has proven to be the tip of the iceberg.

After landing five-star running back TreVeyon Henderson on Friday evening, the Buckeyes rose to the top of the 2021 class rankings with 15 commitments. Of those 15 commitments, three are five-stars, 10 are four-stars and there are two three-stars who are still ranked in the top 500 nationally.

Day landed the No. 1 running back in the nation which is especially impressive because he already had the No. 6 running back committed.

Last year’s class seemed special for Day and Co., but it’s clear that the 2021 cycle is going to be even more potent for Ohio State. The Buckeyes are landing commitments from five-stars during a period when on-campus recruiting is suspended and there’s no face-to-face contact with coaches and recruits — think about how impressive that is.

For the rest of the Big Ten, this is a wake-up call. If the rest of the conference doesn’t step up its game, the Buckeyes are going to run away with the Big Ten for the next decade or two. Sure, there may be a year here and there of another team winning the conference, but with the way things are trending, it looks like all Ohio State for the foreseeable future.

The Buckeyes are here to stay and Day is a big reason for that. He’s been a recruiting genius and during this COVID-19 outbreak, he’s just as effective.
