When you recruit a five-star player, it’s your expectation they figure it out. It’s no different with defensive end Sav’ell Smalls. He is physically ready to play at the college level. He is athletic, long and rangy at the defensive end/outside linebacker position.

Some of the things you like about Smalls on film are his explosiveness, flexibility and versatility. He has a great bend for a player his age. You know he’s a prized signing by the Huskies because he chose to stay close over going to Alabama, Auburn or Florida State.

What has the Washington Huskies’ defensive staff and fans excited is his versatility. He can play every down. Not only that, but he also is as comfortable in a three-point stance as he is standing up. That’s a great get for Jimmy Lake, Pete Kwiatkowski and their defensive staff.

Washington runs these unique multiple-front defenses. His ability to play stand up like a linebacker, or down like a defensive end gets him on the field next season despite having redshirt freshmen in front of him.
