For the second time in the past few years, Mississippi State football will be led by a new coach as Mike Leach has taken over for Joe Moorhead.

Mississippi State is entering a new era of football. Long gone is Dan Mullen and recently departed is Joe Moorhead, giving way to Mike Leach in Starkville.

Leach has gone from the Pac-12 where football isn’t quite as big to SEC country where it’s the only thing. He’s going to have to meet lofty expectations, and quickly, if he’s going to stick at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs will have some talent left over from the Moorhead era (looking at you, Kylin Hill) and Leach has some new toys to play with.

After going 14-12 in two seasons with back-to-back bowl losses, Moorhead was let go by Mississippi State because the standards Mullen created were too high for that. He moved on to the Pac-12 to be the offensive coordinator at Oregon, but the offense should improve under Leach.

Coming over from Washington State, Leach put the Cougars on the map and brought them out of the cellar to become one of the best offenses in the league and a thorn everyone’s sides.

Mississippi State may be bowl-bound once again in 2020, but will it be enough to be more than just a 6-6 squad?

How will the Bulldogs fare in year one of the Leach era?
