New Mexico didn’t have the best 2019 season, finishing 2-10 with zero wins in conference play. That alone will be enough reason for Mississippi State to run away with this one. The Lobos had the No. 106 offense in the country last year and the sixth-worst scoring defense in the nation as well. Let’s just say it was a forgettable season.

Will the Lobos be better in 2020? Well, they can’t get much worse but there won’t be an upset here in Mike Leach’s first game.

Final Score: New Mexico 13, Mississippi State 35 (1-0)

North Carolina State, like New Mexico, had a forgettable 2019 season at 4-8 as Dave Doeren followed up two nine-win seasons with a major dud.

The quarterback situation is up in the air with Matt McKay transferring after showing promise in 2019 and that could mean Devin Leary enters the season as the No. 1 quarterback. NC State has more issues than just at quarterback and all you have to do is look at the defense as well.

This will still be a close one as it’s a true road game for the Bulldogs.

Final Score: Mississippi State 27, NC State 21 (2-0)
