Even with a pandemic wiping out in-person recruiting efforts, North Carolina football has been dominating the 2021 class.

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. Nope, it’s Mack Brown, crashing the 2021 college football recruiting rankings one four-star commitment at a time.

Don’t look now, but North Carolina may slowly be turning into a football school.

With two more commitments on Friday, Raneiria Dillworth and Jared Wilson, North Carolina has jumped Clemson in the 2021 recruiting rankings on 247Sports all the way to No. 2 behind only Ohio State. With those two pledges, the Tar Heels now have 11 four-star commitments and three three-stars.

The 11 four-stars that North Carolina currently has committed matches that of Ohio State but the main difference between the Tar Heels’ and Buckeyes’ classes is that the latter has three five-star pledges as well.

Brown has done a fantastic job, even in the midst of a pandemic, to secure top-notch recruits and the Tar Heels’ average player rating of just under 92 is impressive considering the program is two years removed from the Larry Fedora era when it seemed like North Carolina was at the bottom with no light at the end of the tunnel.

What a job Brown has done — arguably the biggest coaching hire in the ACC in recent memory.

The Tar Heels are generating some serious momentum heading into the 2020 season and when they take the field this fall, Sam Howell could lead them to ACC title contention.

Yes, North Carolina is turning into a football school and that’s bad news for the rest of the ACC. Mack might be getting up there in age, but he’s not done yet.
