USC Football: 5 potential transfer destinations for JT Daniels
By Dante Pryor
JT Daniels has entered his name into the transfer portal. Will he stay with USC football or go elsewhere to play quarterback next season?
“I love this university, coaching staff and team. To me, it is in my best interest to explore all my options going into the 2020 season. I will remain in contact with the coaching staff through the process. USC remains one of my options, and that door has remained open for me.”
Those are the words of JT Daniels, quarterback of the USC Trojans. Almost 24 hours as of the writing of this article, he announced that he was putting his name in the transfer portal. Though he is keeping his options open, Daniels is exploring his options for this season.
The 2019 season started with expectation and optimism for Daniels and the Trojans’ program. Head coach Clay Helton hired Graham Harrell to install the air-raid offense with Daniels as the centerpiece.
For Daniels, it was not to be. He sustained a season-ending knee injury the first game of the season against Fresno State. Then unknown backup quarterback Kedon Slovis stepped in and had a season which saw him become the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.
There are factors around Daniels transferring. There is still a possibility there is a competition between him and Slovis. Also, this could be JT exploring his options in case the NCAA rules about the single transfer exception rule. Even if Daniels transfers without a ruling, USC could block an in-conference transfer.
Daniels is also set to graduate early, so if the NCAA rules against the single transfer exception, he could be a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility left. If he does transfer, here are the possible landing spots for Daniels.
