5. USC

I know, I know. Why go back if you know you’re not going to be the starter? JT Daniels has the redshirt rule in his favor if he goes back. There is a possibility he looks at the landscape and decides no place is a good fit for him.

There were a lot of people around the program, including teammates and Daniels’ family members, that were surprised he put his name in the portal. He’s not the type of kid who backs down from a fight. The offensive staff love Slovis and they should; he had an unbelievable season. However, Daniels is confident he will get an opportunity to earn his job back.

Daniels is close to graduating. Staying means he could be a graduate transfer next season and go wherever he wants without fear of being blocked by USC. Transferring at the end of this season gives him two years of eligibility.

Another year of rest will do the knee some good for Daniels. 2021 is when the knee will really be ready to go. He can still practice and get reps. Much like Jalen Hurts did in Alabama, he can develop even more without worrying about being the starter.

Any place else he may want to transfer is contingent on the transfer rule. If he gets the one-year exception there is a possibility he goes elsewhere. If the NCAA rules against the one-year exception, expect JT to stay an additional season and leave as a graduate transfer.
