LB. 5. 59. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. Miami. Shaq Quarterman

Shaq Quarterman has been a four-year starter and leader for the Hurricanes, but that does not necessarily mean that he will be a high draft pick. He has topped 80 tackles in every season that he was a starter and never missed a single game as long as he was at Miami.

Quarterman has good size for a middle linebacker in the NFL at 6-1, 240 pounds and has good run-stopping ability and instincts.

Where Shaq really lacks though is athleticism and playmaking ability. NFL linebackers need to be able to run sideline to sideline to stop the run and cover running backs and tight ends in space and Quarterman lacks all of that in a major way. He also only has one interception and two forced fumbles in his career and that shows an inability to make a lot of plays which would be expected of an every-down NFL linebacker.

A logical landing spot for Quarterman would be the hometown Dolphins. They have the most selections in this year’s NFL draft and will be looking to fill a lot of needs and I think Quarterman could give them depth and be a special teams player early in his career.

Projection: Fifth round (No. 154 overall)
