Florida State football’s lone projected draftee is running back Cam Akers and he’s the perfect fit for an AFC East squad that may just win the division.

Following another disappointing season, the Florida State Seminoles will begin a new era under first-year head coach Mike Norvell this fall. One player who will not be part of that is running back Cam Akers.

Akers declared for the 2020 NFL Draft after a junior season that saw him run average 4.9 yards per carry for a total 1,144 yards with 14 touchdowns. He also hauled in 225 receiving yards for five touchdowns.

After a 6-7 season and second straight losing season, the Second-team All-ACC running back is the only Seminole expected to be selected in this weeks’ 2020 NFL Draft. He is a projected third round selection and is ranked fifth on ESPN’s running back big board.

A logical prediction for Akers is to see him selected in the third round of the draft by the Buffalo Bills with the 86th overall pick.

With Frank Gore not expected to be resigned, the Bills need another back to pair with Devin Singletary in the backfield. The 5-11 Akers would be the perfect third down back for Josh Allen as he is a reliable pass catcher and has proven he can pick up tough yards.

For the first time since the 1990s, the Bills will likely enter the 2020 season as the favorites to win the NFC East with Tom Brady out of the division and Buffalo coming off a 10-6 season.

If they can add a weapon like Akers to an offense that already features a promising young quarterback in Allen, Singletary, along with one of the NFL’s top receiving cores in Stefon Diggs, John Brown and Cole Beasley they will can be legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

For Akers, Buffalo would provide not a place where he can win games but somewhere that he should have an established role as Singletary’s backfield partner upon arrival.
