Alabama Football: Predicting where Crimson Tide land in 2020 NFL Draft
Tua Tagovailoa’s name dominated the talk of the 2020 NFL Draft for numerous great reasons and one negative reason. From the instant that he stepped foot on campus at Tuscaloosa, he seemed destined for the NFL. His arm strength is elite, his ability to move as well as throw on the move spectacular, and he has a determined attitude to win.
In 15 games as a sophomore in 2018, Tagovailoa passed for 3,966 yards, 43 touchdowns and only six interceptions on 245 completions (out of 355 attempts). He also accounted for five touchdowns.
Durability and health concerns are a huge question mark for all 32 teams in the league. Tagovailoa has been through three lower-body injuries including a fractured hip has caused him to miss the remainder of the 2019 season in mid-November.
Tagovailoa’s hip is healed completely and moving well but some teams are highly cautious. The Miami Dolphins are likely not going to take a risk on him. The Chargers, however, need a quarterback for the future and wanting to have him learn the NFL system for a year while Tyrod Taylor takes the reigns of starting quarterback.
This is a similar move that the Kansas City Chiefs did with Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes.
Projection: First round, No. 6 overall (Chargers)
