LSU football have benefitted from a high-caliber pass rusher for their title team. Now K’Lavon Chaisson will look to impact a new team in the NFL.

Every year, the NFL draft is stockpiled with NFL-caliber talent at edge rusher positions. LSU’s K’Lavon Chaisson comes in the draft looking to solidify himself as one of the league’s next top young rushers. There is a lot of flexibility and demand for pass rushers in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Chaisson comes in a pure outside linebacker instead of a dual-hybrid player at a defensive end/outside linebacker. This works in favor of Chaisson as there will be teams that require a player to stick to one position and create an impact from the linebacker spot.

Chaisson came in as a four-star weak-side defensive end in the recruiting class of 2017 where he was ranked as the fourth-best at his position and top-five player from the state of Texas. He came in and made an impact immediately for the Tigers in his freshman season by playing 10 games and accounting for 27 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and two pass deflections.

The former four-star did suffer a major setback in his sophomore season in 2018 in the Tigers’ season-opening win over the Miami Hurricanes. Chaisson accounted for five total tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack in the win. During the game, however, Chaisson suffered a torn ACL that would force him to miss the season and use a medical redshirt.

This past season, Chaisson stepped back into his starting role with the national title-winning LSU Tigers. He accounted for 60 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and two pass deflections. He played big in some huge games for the Tigers this past season.

In the big win over the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Chaisson accounted for 10 total tackles, and 3.5 tackles for loss. In the home win against the Florida Gators, he accounted for eight total tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack. Finally, in the College Football Playoff win over the Oklahoma Sooners, he accounted for six solo tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks.

Many attributes make Chaisson a first-round worthy prospect to a team that needs some significant pass rusher. His athletic abilities, velocity, and energy can be huge for a team at the next level.
