NFL Draft 2020: Why CeeDee Lamb was perfect choice by Cowboys
By Dante Pryor
CeeDee Lamb goes to the Dallas Cowboys at pick No. 17. It was a surprise pick, but a good pick by the Cowboys. What impact will he have?
Teams have needs. Teams also have big boards. There is always a tension in war rooms. Do you take the player that fills the biggest need or do you take the best player available? The Cowboys opted to take the best player available.
CeeDee Lamb is arguably the best wide receiver in this draft. The Cowboys absolutely had more needs but Lamb is too good a prospect to pass up. The departure of Randall Cobb opened a space in the slot for Lamb.
Lamb can line up on the perimeter or in the slot. He is a rangy playmaker who is masterful at making the contested catch. They have a speedster in Michael Gallup and a touchdown threat in Amari Cooper; now they have a sure-fire 50/50 catch guy in CeeDee Lamb.
Lamb is a bit rough as a route runner, but he has unbelievable ball skills. His hands are ridiculous. He does not drop many balls and can make the tough catch. He is not just a possession receiver either. Lamb is as dynamic as any receiver in this draft after the catch.
Grade: A+
He was schemed open while at Oklahoma, so he’ll have to expand his route discipline, but he is a big play waiting to happen on the field. Most defensive backs played off-coverage against him in college; he will see considerably more press-man and will have to be more creative with his hands against grabby cornerbacks at the next level. Fantastic pick by the Cowboys here.
