Georgia continues pumping out elite NFL talent, and Andrew Thomas is next in line. The Giants took him fourth overall, but was it a reach?

The New York Giants haven’t had very popular drafts — at the time — the past few seasons. Saquon Barkley, while flashy and productive, was considered to be taken “too high” a few years ago. Daniel Jones at No. 6 a season ago seemed like a reach, too, although he looked solid during his rookie campaign.

At 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, Georgia’s Andrew Thomas doesn’t measure like a reach, but with other talents still on the board — Jedrick Willis and Isaiah Simmons to name a few — grabbing Thomas at No. 4 seems like a reach. That doesn’t mean he can’t play, though, as the Bulldogs run game has been dominant in the SEC for years. He does provide a versatility that’ll allow him to play either side of the offensive line.

With Jones, Barkley, and now Thomas, the Giants are adding to an already strong foundation. They’ll need to continue fleshing out the roster, but having a player like Thomas who is capable of protecting Jones while also leading the way for Barkley was desperately needed.

Grade: B-

Although I believe the Giants could’ve traded back and wound up with more picks and Thomas, the Georgia tackle will be an immediate starter, regardless of how the rest of the offseason goes. Though he may be a reach at No. 4, he’s still a top-15 talent and could have been a great pick had the Giants been able to find a trade partner.
