The Bengals drafted LSU star Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick and he’s the perfect centerpiece to turn Cincinnati around.

To no one’s surprise, the Bengals made the devision to select LSU’s Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick and we may have never seen anyone’s stock rise as much in one year as his did from 2018 to 2019.

After the 2018 season, Burrow was looked at as an above average starting quarterback in the SEC, passing for 2,894 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions with a sub-58 percent completion rate. And then he broke out for over 5,600 yards and 60 touchdowns with a 76 percent completion rate in 2019.

Burrow went from mid-round prospect to unquestioned No. 1 overall player in just 12 months and he has had quite the year with national title and Heisman Trophy accolades.

This kid is everything a franchise would want in a starting quarterback to turn things around. He has the arm, the accuracy and the leadership capabilities you’d want in your franchise’s centerpiece. Oh, and he’s arguably the most humble superstar in recent memory.

The improvement Burrow has had from an Ohio State third-stringer to LSU starter to Heisman Trophy winner and national champion in just a few years has been incredible and it doesn’t seem like he’ll be slowing down any time soon.

The Bengals have the perfect piece to build around.

Grade: A

Burrow at No. 1 was a no-brainer and the best possible option. While Chase Young may be the most physically-gifted athlete in the draft with potentially the best potential for stardom, Burrow fits a need for Cincinnati and you can’t build a franchise without that centerpiece. This kid has everything the Bengals need.
