There was a huge surprise when the Kansas City Chiefs made the pick for LSU’s flex running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire over Georgia’s D’Andre Swift. This decision came down to the exact fit of their team and their reliability of their running back to be an extra receiver in the backfield.

Swift is a worthy flex running back for any NFL team but there are other teams in the first round that could have benefitted from his immediate impact. He was ranked as the top running back in the 2020 NFL Draft and the 18th-best prospect by ESPN as he was given a 91 overall grade.

Swift is a running back that has excellent vision, great change of direction in his hips, and good burst once he passes the line of scrimmage. He is also a reliable receiver in the backfield. In his junior season at Georgia in 2019, Swift rushed for 1,218 yards and seven touchdowns on 196 carries as well as catching 24 receptions for 216 yards for a touchdown.

The Miami Dolphins could have made a move for Swift in one of their three picks in the first round, but they could make the pick for Swift again with the 39th overall pick. The Chicago Bears could make the surprising pick for Swift with the 43rd overall pick. The Los Angeles Rams desperately need a running back that could impact their offense immediately with the 52nd overall pick.
