The Dallas Cowboys put together one of their best drafts in recent memory. How does each member of the 2020 NFL Draft class grade?

The Dallas Cowboys came into the 2020 NFL Draft with quite a few needs to be filled after losing some guys to free agency and retirement. Now that the draft has concluded, we have broken down each pick and given it a grade.

How did the Cowboys shake out?

Round 1, CeeDee Lamb: A+

Did the Cowboys absolutely need a wide receiver in the first round of the draft? Probably not. However, this was a case of best player available and the ‘Boys took what was right in front of them. They get one of the best players the draft had to offer in CeeDee Lamb out of Oklahoma.

Coming into the draft, there was no scenario where Lamb fell to 17, but here we are and this could be a potential home run type pick for the offense which already boasts Michael Gallup, Amari Cooper, and Ezekiel Elliott.

Round 2, Trevon Diggs: A

We move from an exciting addition to the offense to the filling of a spot of need, cornerback. With the departure of Byron Jones in free agency, the ‘Boys were in need in the secondary. Alabama’s corner Trevon Diggs was on the draft board for Dallas, but he wasn’t graded high enough to be the pick at No. 17. When he was still there at No. 51 though, the Cowboys just had to swoop in and grab him up. His three interceptions in his senior year at Alabama are a great sign for a defense that has struggled with taking the ball away.

Round 3, Neville Gallimore: A

The Cowboys went back to the Sooners with their round three pick of defensive tackle Neville Gallimore and this one was another high ranking pick up.

Many were waiting for the Cowboys to do what they normally do and pick up someone that just made no sense, for example, picking up Taco Charlton when TJ Watt was sitting right there, but that didn’t happen in round three. Gallimore is in a position to develop behind the free agency pickups of Dontari Poe and Gerald McCoy. He’s got a strong motor and could develop into a big-time playmaker for the Cowboys.

Round 4, Reggie Robinson II: B+

Tulsa’s Reggie Robinson is another great pick up for the Cowboys and once again at a position of need: cornerback. He is the second corner picked up for the ‘Boys. Could they have also picked up an available safety, another position of need? Sure, but that doesn’t take away from the quality of the pick here.

Robinson did play safety in high school and has said that he’d be willing to make the switch in the professional ranks, so maybe this pick is even better than we originally thought- we will see how it shakes out.

Round 4, Tyler Biadasz: A-

Early this offseason, Cowboys starting center Travis Frederick announced his retirement from the NFL. This suddenly put the Cowboys in need of a center, so they went out and got an award-winning one in Tyler Biadasz out of Wisconsin, which is where they got Travis Fredrick from not so long ago.

Dallas gave up two fifth-round picks to move up and grad Biadasz, but if he ends up being the future starter for the Cowboys at the center position than it will surely be worth it.

Round 5, Bradlee Anae: A

In round five, the Cowboys picked up edge rusher Bradlee Anae out of Utah. He had an incredibly successful career of getting to the quarterback over at Utah and continued to show his ability to do just that in the Senior Bowl as well.

With the departure of Robert Quinn and Michael Bennett, the Cowboys will need help off the edge and picking up Anae was the right move here. It is a huge value pick, especially so late in the draft.

Round 7, Ben DiNucci: B

The final pick of the draft for the Dallas Cowboys was a quarterback, not necessarily a huge pickup, but one that was necessary. Dak Prescott is the starter for sure, there is no questioning that as he is about to get a big-time payday.

However, a back up is necessary and the one they have now isn’t all that great. The James Madison quarterback has some talent for sure and will be fighting for that No. 2 spot on the Cowboys roster with Cooper Rush.
