Two years ago, Florida State had a safety selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Derwin James was a different breed and one of the best players in that class but the Seminoles could be sending another safety to the draft via the first round.

However, Hamsah Nasirildeen has a lot of work to do if he wants to go in the first 32 picks as he’s looking more like a Day 2 selection right now.

If the 2021 NFL Draft were to happen today, he’d likely be a 2-3 rounder, but if he works on his coverage skills and proves that he can go one-on-one with route-runners, he’ll improve that to a late-first or early-second round grade. That’s currently the biggest knock on him after three seasons with the Seminoles as he’s a heck of a tackler and aggressive safety.

In fact, Nasirildeen had 101 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack in 2019, posting the best numbers of his career. He also had two interceptions and one returned for a touchdown. He has the ability to cover when need be, but he hasn’t perfected that art.

It wouldn’t be all that shocking to see him go on Day 2 next year with some late Day 1 upside.
