Texas Football: Top 3 Longhorn prospects for 2021 NFL Draft

In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Longhorns had one of their starting safeties from the 2019 season in Brandon Jones get drafted. This season, the Longhorns return a roster full of talented defensive backs looking to make a tremendous impact in the passing defense.

Caden Sterns was a tremendous impact player as a true freshman in 2018.

In that freshman season, Sterns accounted for 59 total tackles, 44 solo tackles, four pass deflections, four interceptions, three tackles for loss and one sack. He was named a part of the 2018 All-Big 12 first team and was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year.

This past season, Sterns accounted for 59 total tackles, 44 solo tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack and one pass deflection. So far in his two-year career with Texas, Sterns has accounted for 121 total tackles, 90 solo tackles, seven tackles for loss, five pass deflections and four interceptions.

Sterns is an aggressive playmaker that makes the hard tackles in open spaces and makes pass breakups at the precise time. He is a player that has great instincts and will look to develop his attributes as a coverage player.

Sterns is the fourth rated defensive back in the 2021 class and the top-rated safety. There was no safety selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft but Sterns has the talent and potential to be the first safety selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
