These are three important questions that Alabama football must answer if the Tide want to return to the College Football Playoff.

The statistics the Alabama Crimson Tide football program has accrued since Nick Saban came to Tuscaloosa are staggering. The only season he did not win double-digit games was his first year in Tuscaloosa.

The Tide have finished first or second seven times in 13 seasons. That includes being the wire to wire No. 1 team in the country five times. They routinely have a top three recruiting class every season. That’s not to mention the players they send to the draft.

This season has a different feel to it, however. This is the second time in three years the Crimson Tide has not won a national title. This is also the second time in three years Alabama has not had the No. 1 recruiting class in the country.

This does not have the feel of a dynasty crumbling; rather, there are just programs who have stepped their game up. This could be a crossroads season in Tuscaloosa. Alabama’s two challengers in the SEC are both breaking in new quarterbacks.

Clemson and Ohio State are more than ready to take the Crimson Tide down should they make the National Semifinal. They have some critical and legitimate concerns coming into this season.

What questions must Alabama answer if it wants to return to the national title game?
