2. The Bengals actually spent some money

There have been instances where players did not want to play for certain franchises. John Elway threatened to play baseball if the Baltimore Colts drafted him. Bo Jackson was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and went to play baseball.

Eli Manning famously forced the hand of the San Diego Chargers. He went to New York and LaDanian Tomlinson and Drew Brees went to San Diego. Why do some players do this?

Players that are drafted in the top five want to know the organization is willing to make a commitment to winning. Keep in mind, when you draft this high, you are not a very good team.

Cincinnati is a notoriously cheap franchise. However, the Bengals showed their commitment to improving the by the money they spent this offseason.

They brought in D.J. Reader from the Texans and Trae Waynes from the Vikings via free agency. Cincinnati also signed guard Xaver Su’a-Filo from the Cowboys to shore up the offensive line.

The most important investment they made was franchise tagging AJ Green. Joe Burrow needs a big reliable target next season and there are few better than Green.

The moves they made in the offseason show they are committed to making this work.
