TCU football hit the jackpot late in the 2020 recruiting class by acquiring five-star running back Zackary Evans. He could be the next Ladainian Tomlinson.

This offseason has been wild for the sport of college football, aside from the effects of COVID-19. This Monday, the college football world encountered another huge shifting effect when five-star running back Zachary Evans announced his decision to enroll at TCU.

After previously signing with the Georgia Bulldogs, Evans made a surprising decision to not pursue a future in Athens any further. He will be granted to play immediately for the TCU Horned Frogs in the upcoming 2020 season.

This decision was highly surprising for many reasons, especially how TCU was low on Evans’ list when looking to sign early in the 2020 recruiting class process. He has been exceptionally quiet on his recruiting process. He was especially quiet about his progress at Georgia. Programs like Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas A&M were pushing hard for Evans.

In the end, Evans chose to go with TCU due to distance from his hometown in Houston and how the Horned Frogs patiently and quietly worked with Evans.

Evans is a five-star recruit ranked 16th overall in the nation and ranked second of all running backs in the 2020 recruiting class. He is the highest-rated signed player in program history and the first-ever five-star recruit in program history. The Horned Frogs have never had a player of this caliber come in and start their colligate career in the modern era.

The five-star back is a physically gifted runner with a good frame and good breakout speed. He is highly elusive and nearly impossible to tackle. He possesses a great vision for making moves, elite agility and elusiveness, reliable pass-catching ability and power to make contact with defenders and protect in the pocket. He even waits for his offensive linemen to proceed with their blocks.

Evans has been given comparisons to the playing style of Broncos running back Melvin Gordon. He even possesses the elusiveness, power and breakout speed of former Georgia running back Herschel Walker.

Here are three reasons Evans will excel for TCU.
