The last NC State tight end to be selected in the NFL draft was Anthony Hill all the way back in 2009 by the Houston Texans. Cary Angeline should change that in 2021.

The Exton, Penn., native was once committed and enrolled at USC, but decided to transfer to NC State shortly into his sophomore season. He was earning some high praise from USC coaches after his redshirt freshman season, but withdrew from the school in September of 2017. He came to NC State as a redshirt sophomore and had a big role immediately.

Though he played in just six games, he became a solid target for Ryan Finley off the bench, catching nine passes for 169 yards and a touchdown.

As a junior, he was one of the bets tight ends in the ACC, catching 25 passes for 375 yards and five touchdowns and he did all that while missing three games.

The former top-200 recruit in the 2016 class has the build at 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds and the hands to become one of the best tight ends in the 2021 NFL Draft class. He can catch, run and block and should put up even bigger numbers in 2020.

Don’t be surprised if he comes off the board early on and even sneaks into the second round. I would say he’s a round one prospect, but tight ends are rarely picked on Day 1.
