The 2021 NFL Draft seems like its lightyears away, but Purdue football is working to get a few hopefuls to the league and one may be a first-rounder.

After back-to-back bowl appearances in 2017 and 2018, Purdue looked like a program on the rise. Jeff Brohm was one of the fastest-rising coaches in the nation and there was even talk of Big Ten West title contention in West Lafayette.

The Brohm’s alma mater came calling before the 2019 season. Louisville was in the market for a new head coach and Brohm was at the top of the list. Shockingly, he turned down the job and opted to stay with the Boilermakers even thought going back to the school that built him as a quarterback made all the sense in the world.

That was supposed to give Purdue some massive momentum as a program as 2019 looked to be the best season under Brohm to date. That didn’t quite happen.

Injuries began to pile up early on in the season as Rondale Moore and Elijah Sindelar went down in the same game and never returned. That led to the backup quarterback seeing more action than anyone would have projected and then he was injured, too, as Jack Plummer’s promising freshman season was done at the start of November.

With Plummer getting healthy and Moore coming back in 2020, the Boilermakers should have plenty of NFL-caliber talent to help turn things around.

Purdue had the most players drafted (2) in 2020 in the Brohm era and he could beat that number once again in 2021. Which Boilermakers could be next?
