This was the year that Florida returned to a national power under coach Urban Meyer and was the first of three straight seasons where USC fans were left saying “what if” at the end of it. On this episode of college football rewind, we’ll look at the most important games from the 2006 season.

In many ways, the 2006 college football season was the year of the little guy. Some programs which we take for granted nowadays like Boise State and TCU started to emerge and become threats to the bigger powers.

Rutgers was a top 15 team with NFL-caliber talent on its roster, Wake Forest won not only 10 games but the ACC championship as well, Louisville would come closer than it ever has to a national championship appearance and the Big East would lay claim to being one of the best conferences in the country with the seasons that the Cardinals, Scarlet Knights and West Virginia would go on to have.

This would also mark a turning point for some programs as teams like Michigan and Notre Dame and Arkansas would enjoy their last successful season for years to come.
