5. (6) Michigan 27, Wisconsin 13

Wisconsin was 3-0 under new head coach Brett Bielema and looking to establish themselves as contenders in the Big Ten and nationally with a big win over sixth-ranked Michigan, who was coming off a big victory against Notre Dame the week before.

The game was all knotted up 10-10 at the half, but Michigan rode a strong defensive performance and star receiver Mario Manningham made some big catches to put away the Badgers 27-13. Michigan held Wisconsin’s P.J Hill to only 54 yards on 20 carries and he came into the game averaging 138 yards per game on the ground.

This game is significant because this would go on to be Wisconsin’s only loss all season and it’s fair to wonder whether or not this could have propelled them to the national championship game against Ohio State with those two being the only undefeated teams in the country in that scenario.

I still think that Florida gets the nod however because of the strength of the SEC and the BCS would have granted Ohio State the Big Ten championship over the Badgers and that’s why this game isn’t ranked a spot or two higher.
