Junior. 1. 829. Scouting Report. CB. player. Pick Analysis. Patrick Surtain II

Patrick Surtain II became a star player early in his career by taking over for the injured Trevon Diggs midway through the 2018 season. He was held up surprisingly well being a true freshman and stepping in unexpectedly. That season, he accounted for 37 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one interception, seven pass deflections and one forced fumble.

This past season, Surtain II held his role as one of the most consistent coverage cornerbacks by starting every game throughout the season. He accounted for 42 total tackles, one tackle for loss, two interceptions, eight pass deflections and three forced fumbles. He, along with LSU true freshman Derek Stingley Jr., was one of the most consistent man coverage cornerbacks.

In his entire 28 game career at Alabama, Surtain II has only allowed two targets to be completed of over 60 yards. He has only allowed nine catches when his wide receiver has been targeted.

His dropbacks at the snap of the ball, ability to stick to his receivers, and hip flexibility are among the elite potential cornerback prospects of the 2021 NFL Draft. He is not a cornerback that loses track of his receiver and can make great adjustments while in coverage.

Surtain II is ranked sixth overall by USA Today as the top prospects of the 2021 NFL Draft as well as fifth by Athlon Sports. He is regarded as the most talented outside cornerback in the 2021 draft class.
