Week 12: Virginia Tech football at Duke (Nov. 21)

Duke is another team that had some strange results in 2019. The Blue Devils went 5-7, despite mauling Virginia Tech 45-10 and besting Miami by 10 points.

David Cutcliffe has done a bang-up job helming the football program in Durham. Winning at a school with cutthroat academic standards is no easy task, but he has managed to put together five winning teams at Duke, including a 2013 squad that had 10 victories and a Coastal division title. His record is slightly below .500, but winning year in and year out at a school like Duke is just a bit too tall of an order in the modern college football landscape.

Unfortunately, the need for a new quarterback and some question marks on defense don’t really bode well for the Blue Devils in 2020.

The Virginia Tech Hokies are still angry after a 45-10 thrashing in Blacksburg last season. Quentin Harris put on a real show for the Blue Devils at Lane Stadium that Friday night, throwing two touchdown passes and scoring another as he amassed 363 all-purpose yards. He will not be back for Duke this season.

Virginia Tech remembers what Duke did to them. This game will not be pretty.

Prediction: Virginia Tech 45, Duke 10 (8-3, 5-2)
